Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Ten years
What is your primary product or service?
Private party singing rooms.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
When I came to Ann Arbor from Korea, I needed a business, and I knew that private-room karaoke was popular with Asians, and I believed that non-Asian Americans would enjoy having a place to sing and party with their friends. I like to sing, too!
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Affordable private rooms for parties and singing. Where else can people go, bring in their own food and beverages, sing until their voices get weary and head for home relaxed and happy?
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
Only one, and no, I have no expansion plans. I'm proud to have built and operate a successful downtown Ann Arbor business, but the hours are long and the work never-ending. All of Ann Arbor comes through our doors, and I'm privileged to meet everybody. That's enough for me.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Blue Karaoke is west of downtown on the north side of West Liberty. Our main entrance is directly across from 2nd Street, and our drive circles in front of Blue Karaoke and our parking lots.
What type of payments do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards and cash.
Which areas do you service?
We have regular customers from Ohio, Grand Rapids, Saginaw and Metro Detroit. I guess we service anybody who comes to Ann Arbor.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I do, and I have no employees.
What are your hours of operation?
Our listed hours are 5pm to 5am daily, but we also host parties during the daytime for pre-scheduled parties, school groups and other community organizations. Normally, we close when our late-night customers head for home.
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
Thank you, we had so much fun. We'll be back.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
